The Investment Objective of the Quantum Ethical Fund is to achieve long-term capital appreciation by investing in Equity & Equity Related Instruments of companies following an Ethical Set of Principles including Shariah, Jainism and other ethical principles encompassing a broad ethical framework.
The Scheme follows an active investment strategy where the corpus invests in shares of companies meeting an Ethical set of Principles including Shariah, Jainism and other ethical principles encompassing a broad Ethical Framework. Such companies meeting the ethical criteria are further screened through Quantum's proprietary integrity framework, and these companies also undergo a financial evaluation based on a set of metrics to ensure they are financially sound before being included in the portfolio.
Key exclusions under the ethical framework include:
- Alcohol, gambling, tobacco, vulgar entertainment, animation content provider, exhibition of films, media-broadcasting, media-content, production and distribution of films, mainstream or conventional financial services, non-halal food and beverages, narcotics substance or anything largely harmful to society
- Meat & Animal Products, Poultry industries or any form of animal cruelty such as dairy, Pharmaceuticals involving animal testing, Weapons & Defence, Gambling and betting, Leather industries
The fund benchmarks its performance to the NIFTY 500 Shariah Total Return Index (TRI). The evaluation process consists of a blend of quantitative and qualitative factors, assigning scores from -70 to +30, with companies having an INTEGRITY score of 0 or above qualifying for inclusion in the portfolio.
The Fund is managed by Chirag Mehta, who serves as the Chief Investment Officer at Quantum AMC. He joined the Quantum group in 2006 and has two decades of experience specializing in alternative investment strategies.
