Strategic Initiatives

Silicon Carbide Business Investment

In a significant strategic move, DENSO CORPORATION and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation agreed in October 2023 to collectively invest $1 billion into Coherent's silicon carbide business. Each company contributed $500 million, acquiring a 12.5% non-controlling ownership interest in the business, with Coherent retaining the remaining 75%. This transaction was successfully completed in December 2023.

AI and Data Center Growth

The fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024 saw a sequential revenue increase of 9%, largely propelled by the robust demand in the company's Datacom transceiver business, driven by ongoing AI-related strength. Coherent also achieved a significant operational milestone, shipping over 300 million Datacom transceivers from its facility in Malaysia.
