Historical Background

Founded in 1955 as the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) by an initiative of the World Bank to finance medium-term and long-term projects, its banking arm, ICICI Bank, was incorporated in 1994 as a fully-owned subsidiary. Initially named Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Bank, it later adopted the name ICICI Bank. In 2002, ICICI Bank underwent a reverse merger with its parent company and its other subsidiaries, ICICI Personal Financial Services Ltd and ICICI Capital Services Ltd.
