Company Overview

Finolex Cables, established in 1958, has emerged as India's most diversified and prominent manufacturer of electrical and telecommunication cables, and is currently India's largest and leading manufacturer of electrical and telecommunication cables with a turnover in excess of 26 Billion (about US$ 400 million). The group was founded in 1958 by P. P. Chhabria and K. P. Chhabria - the early start saw Finolex donning the role of a copper cable manufacturer with the founders demonstrating foresight by diversifying into the production of PVC insulated electrical cables for the automobile industry. The Finolex brand was intuitive from "Fine" and "Flexibles" and "O" with an electric arc across it – suggesting the electrical cable business the company was in, and the word 'Finolex' is derived from the words 'fine' and 'flexible', attributed to manufacturing of fine copper in the company's inaugural product—flexible cables.

Since then, there has been no looking back and following a public offering in July 1983, Finolex Cables Limited embarked on a continuous process of expansion and modernization which enabled it to become the most diversified & largest cable manufacturer in the country. Headquartered in Pune, India, the company has built an illustrious reputation over more than six decades, establishing itself as an innovative trailblazer and a paragon of quality manufacturing in the electrical industry.

Business Segments and Product Portfolio

The company operates through Electrical Cables, Communication Cables, Copper Rods, and Others segments. It offers electrical cables, such as 1100V and motor winding PVC insulated, automotive/battery, UPS, elevator, solar, and industrial cables, as well as heavy duty, underground, low and high voltage, power, and control cables; and communication cables, including optic fiber, coaxial, local area network, CCTV, speaker, jelly filled telephone, PE insulated telephone, and V-SAT cables.

Beyond its core cable manufacturing business, Finolex has also forayed into the manufacturing of Fast-Moving Electrical Goods (FMEG) and home appliances, and is rapidly transforming from a manufacturer of wires and cables into an electrical products company, by expanding its product portfolio to market products like lighting, water heaters, fans, switches, switchgear, home appliances, and electrical conduits. Reinforcing its reputation of offering innovative products, Finolex Cables has recently entered into the Smart switches and Smart door lock market with a range that caters to the needs of modern households.

Manufacturing and Quality Standards

Finolex Cables has set up four modern state-of-the-art plants, and the company's five modern state-of-the-art plants, equipped with the latest testing facilities ensure superior product quality. The company has received the IS/ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems Certification across all product lines and plants. Also IS/ISO 14001 - Environmental Management Systems Certification has been accorded to its plants in Urse and Goa.

Every cable is manufactured using bright annealed electrolytic grade copper – 99.97% pure manufactured in-house, demonstrating the company's commitment to quality and vertical integration. As a pioneer in manufacturing auto cables, Finolex boasts the distinction of being among the sole cable manufacturers in India capable of producing cables up to 500 kV.

Distribution Network and Market Presence

To give flexibility to its supply chain, the company has established a network of 600 distributors, 5000 Channel partners & over 2,00,000 retailers, all connected by an effective SAP system to become one of the most trusted brands of the country. The company also offers its products through retail outlets under the Finolex Houses brand name; and online retail stores. Over the years, the Company has established itself as a preferred electrical solutions provider for retail and institutional markets in India and created a strong brand name.

Strategic Partnerships and Innovation

Finolex' partnership with J-Power Systems Corporation (JPS) of Japan (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries) enables a turnkey solution in EHV cable systems in India and abroad. This strategic alliance strengthens the company's position in high-voltage power transmission solutions and expands its technological capabilities.

Financial Performance

As of the latest available data, Finolex Cables has a Market Cap of ₹14,964 Crore. For the entire FY25 fiscal, Finolex Cables posted a revenue of ₹5,318.9 Crore, up 6% over the year-ago period. Finolex Cables Ltd reported a 13.8% year-on-year (YoY) rise in revenue for the quarter ended March 31, 2025, with revenue coming in at ₹1,594.6 Crore as against ₹1,401 Crore in Q4 FY24, and the company's net profit grew by 3% YoY at ₹191.7 Crore in Q4 FY25.

Key Financial Highlights for FY25:

- Revenue: ₹5,318.9 Crore (6% YoY growth)

- Q4 FY25 Revenue: ₹1,594.6 Crore (13.8% YoY growth)

- Q4 FY25 Net Profit: ₹191.7 Crore (3% YoY growth)

- The Board of Directors has also proposed a final dividend of ₹8 per equity share (400%) for the FY25, which is subject to the approval of the shareholders at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The company is almost debt-free, reflecting strong financial management and operational efficiency. The company's new products portfolio added more than ₹250 Crore to FY25 sales, representing a 14% increase and a sign of greater picks up in value-added segments.

Volume Growth and Market Dynamics

While volumes for the Electrical Wires remained flat on a full year basis, the Cables volumes registered a 15% growth and the OFC volumes jumped by 30%. In volumes, Electrical Wires registered a 7% growth, whereas Cables recorded a significant 50% recovery on the back of strong demand in infrastructure and industrial applications. Within Communication Cables, volumes in Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) jumped more than 30%, partly compensating for a drop in other sub-segments of the communication cable segment.

Awards and Recognition

In 1989, Company won the Harvard Business School-Economic Times Award for Corporate Excellence; it was also declared the winner of Voice and Data magazine's Top Telecom Company Award in 2003. IIM-LIC Award for Marketing Excellence in 1994-95; Star Performer Award for outstanding contribution to Engineering Exports during the year 2005-06 and several other accolades have come its way. Finolex Cables has also featured in the Top 150 Hidden Champions of the World by World Link, Geneva.
