The company's unit was set up as a small scale unit in 1982 at Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, to manufacture submersible pumps with an installed capacity of 1500 pumps p.a. The unit received ISI mark for its products in 1991. In 1995 it underwent an expansion programme increasing the capacity of pumps to 10,000 per annum and that of control panels to 8,000 per annum, and started to produce monoblock pumps of an installed capacity of 10,000 per annum.
The company achieved several milestones over the years. Shakti also obtained the ISO 9002 Certification in 1998 and became the exclusive manufacturer of motor pump sets purely of stainless steel in the nation in 1999. The Solar Pumping Solutions was launched in 2013.
